Transforming art experiences for special education students
Transforming art experiences for special education students
At Beautiful Mind on Fire, our mission is to celebrate the incredible artwork created by high school students enrolled in special education across Lubbock, Texas and surrounding areas. We co-host a bimonthly (every 2 months) art competition where these talented young artists have the opportunity to showcase their unique perspectives and creativity. Students can submit their original work, completed with minimal assistance from their teachers, paraprofessionals, art instructors, or parents (for homeschooled children). The winning artwork will be showcased on merchandise available through this website and during the First Friday Art Trail event in Lubbock, Texas. A portion of the proceeds will directly support the winner’s special education program, and the artist and their helper will also receive recognition for their achievement. Let us all celebrate the creativity and brilliance of these students!
Featured Artist: Sarai Blanco
Sarai is a senior at Liberty Cooper High school. From the beginning she faced the challenges of infantile spasms which severely disrupt brain development. She was later diagnosed with Level 3 Autism. Yet through every trial, she radiates joy, humor and kindness. Life is not without struggles. Words often remain locked inside, unspoken. Each stroke of her artwork is a window into her emotions. Embrace her voice and story by making her art a part of your life.
